Georgina’s inspiration comes from the life of 19th century explorer, author and naturalist Julius Lucius Brenchley. Brenchley was born in Maidstone and educated at Maidstone Grammar School. Georgina’s sculpture design celebrates some of the rare or never-seen-before birds and butterflies recorded in Brenchley’s jottings during the cruise of H.M.S. Curaçao among the South Sea Islands in 1865. Her design aims to capture the passionate nature of a unique adventurer and collector of art, ethnography and natural history.
