Jessica Morgan is an artist and designer from Kent, specialising in print and stained glass work. Her work focuses on history, nature and heritage. Jessica’s inspiration for this piece was the Maidstone Museum’s Japanese collection focusing mainly on lacquer pieces. She uses gold and metallic paints to bring to life the shininess of the gold and oyster and pearl inlay used in traditional Japanese lacquerware. Jessica hopes by using the colours and motifs from the collection as the main inspiration will inspire people to visit the museum and explore. ‘Shikki Shaun’s’ name is based on the Japanese word for lacquer.
